Rivian has opened the R2 configurator, giving reservation holders their first real look at how the smaller electric SUV prices out beyond the headline starting numbers.
The important catch is timing. The R2 lineup now spans Performance, Premium, and Standard trims, but the live configurator is focused on the Performance model with Launch Package. That version starts at $57,990 before destination and is scheduled to begin deliveries in spring 2026. The lower-priced R2 Premium and R2 Standard trims arrive later.
What you can configure first
The first R2 available to build is the Performance Launch Package model. Rivian lists it with dual-motor all-wheel drive, 656 horsepower, 609 lb-ft of torque, a 3.6-second 0-60 mph time, and up to 330 miles of EPA-estimated range on the included 21-inch Liquid Tungsten all-season wheels.
The Launch Package is more than a badge. Rivian says it includes lifetime Autonomy+, a special Rivian Green key fob, the tow package with up to 4,400 pounds of towing capacity, and access to the limited Launch Green exterior color. For early buyers who already planned to add driver assistance and towing capability, that bundle makes the launch model feel less bare than its nearly $58,000 starting price might suggest.
R2 trim pricing and timing
Rivian’s full R2 plan is staggered. Performance comes first in spring 2026. Premium follows in late 2026 with a $53,990 starting price, dual-motor all-wheel drive, 450 horsepower, 537 lb-ft of torque, and up to 330 miles of estimated range. Standard follows in 2027 at $48,490 for the long-range rear-wheel-drive version, with 350 horsepower and up to 345 miles of Rivian-estimated range.
Rivian also says a lower-priced Standard variant is planned for late 2027 at around $45,000 with more than 275 miles of estimated range. That is the number many shoppers remember from the original R2 reveal, but it is not the version buyers can configure first.
Paint, wheels, and interior choices
The configurator’s no-cost paint is Esker Silver. Electrek and RivianTrackr both report that Glacier White adds $1,000, Half Moon Grey and Forest Green add $1,500, and Midnight, Catalina Cove, Launch Green, and Borealis add $2,000. Availability matters: Forest Green is listed for late 2026, Borealis for 2027, and Launch Green is tied to the Launch Package.
On the Performance model, the 21-inch Liquid Tungsten all-season wheels are included. Buyers who want a more rugged setup can choose 20-inch Black Sand all-terrain wheels, which RivianTrackr reports add $1,000 and reduce the estimate from 330 miles to 307 miles. That tradeoff is worth noting if the R2’s off-road character is part of the appeal.
Inside, Black Crater Signature is the included interior for early Performance builds. Coastal Cloud Signature is the lighter interior option, but Rivian says it arrives later. That means the earliest R2 customers may need to accept the darker cabin if they want the quickest delivery window.
Charging and accessories
Every R2 uses a native NACS charge port, so the SUV is designed around Tesla Supercharger access from the start rather than relying on an adapter for the main fast-charging network. Rivian says R2 can add up to 150 miles in 15 minutes under ideal DC fast-charging conditions and charge from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes.
The configurator also lists a compact spare tire at $755. RivianTrackr reports related launch accessories including an $800 Rivian Wall Charger, $400 Portable Charger, $50 J1772 AC adapter, $200 CCS1 DC adapter, $225 all-weather mats, $200 cargo cover, $125 front sunshade, $65 screen protector, and $700 cargo crossbars.
Why this matters
The R2 is Rivian’s attempt to move from expensive adventure EVs into a much broader SUV segment. The configurator does not yet make R2 a $45,000 vehicle in practice. For now, the real first-wave price is closer to $58,000 before destination, and many shoppers will cross $60,000 once paint, wheels, accessories, taxes, and fees are included.
That does not make the launch model a poor value. It does mean buyers should separate the R2 they can order first from the cheaper R2s Rivian plans to sell later. If you want the earliest delivery, strongest performance, towing package, and lifetime Autonomy+, the Performance Launch Package is the one to watch. If your priority is the lowest monthly payment, the smarter move may be waiting for Premium or Standard builds to open up.
